Risk Management Plans for Word Heritage Sites.
The lecture explains the work done in three World Heritage Sites in Chile for the design of Risk Management Plans (RMP). Each one presents different approach based on the UNESCO methodology because of its specific characteristics and threats.
The three sites belong to different categories:
- National Park Rapa Nui: archaeological and natural heritage with an active indigenous community.
- Historic district of the city port Valparaíso: a historic district surrounded by the modern city.
- Saltpeter works Humberstone and Santa Laura: industrial archaeology located in the Atacama Desert.
At this time, the three Risk Management Plans are in different stages of progress.
Intervention projects in historic contexts.
The lecture shows the experience of more than 10 years leading Studios focused on intervention in historic areas or buildings.
The methodology proposes an approach from history, urban and cultural context, and t technical aspects that allows knowing in depth the case study.
The projects, in different scales and geographical contexts, respond to contemporary demands, respecting cultural identity, always with the aim of achieving sustainable rehabilitation. This rehabilitation is understood from an environmental, social and economic perspective.
