YEBO! Special Event within EUA-CDE Annual Meeting
Open to everyone interested in this field, the EUA Council for Doctoral Education (EUA-CDE) invited university members and other stakeholders to take this opportunity to exchange good practices and build new relations with European policy makers, funding organisations and global partners.
The EUA-CDE invited academic leaders, heads of doctoral schools, doctoral education professionals, early career researchers and everybody interested in the area of doctoral education from Europe and beyond to its 2019 Annual Meeting to reflect on the doctoral education structures, policies and practices that facilitate the societal dimension of the contribution made by doctoral education and other sectors of society.
The YEBO special event was held during the EUA-CDE pre-meeting (12 June 2019) and provided an overview of the South African context and the challenges faced. The topics was: Overview of South African Doctoral Context (state of the art, National Strategy, current challenges); current opportunities in South Africa for European universities (co-tutelles framework; fellowships); future perspectives for the Internationalisation of Doctoral Education in South Africa (long-term strategy, new investments & objectives beyond 2020).
YEBO! is project funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union. YEBO! is a Capacity Building Project aiming to help with the modernization, the accessibility and the internationalization of higher education in the partners’ countries. The general objective of YEBO! project is to foster and develop the internationalization of doctoral studies in South Africa. Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) is YEBO! partner.
