VILNIUS TECH will allocate about 14 million euros for dormitory renovations
Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH) is preparing for the new academic year and the admission of students. VILNIUS TECH will allocate around 14 million euros for improving student living conditions.
Currently, VILNIUS TECH students reside in 5 dormitories, 4 of which have been renovated. To ensure suitable conditions for all students living in dormitories, repairs and renovations are ongoing in existing facilities.
The modernisation project for the fifth dormitory (Saulėtekio Ave. 19-1) is currently being finalised. This project will involve reconfiguring dormitory spaces, updating rooms and common areas, creating leisure areas, bike storage, and other communal spaces. Additionally, rooms for students with special needs and other infrastructure adjustments will be made.
"Upon completion of the building’s renovation, 8,792.87 square meters will be updated, which will contribute to higher energy efficiency. We plan to complete these works by 2026. We aim to ensure that students living in dormitories can focus on their studies and personal development, which is why the dormitories are regularly maintained and living conditions are improved," said Algirdas Bendikas, Head of the Services department of the VILNIUS TECH facilities directorate.
During the renovation, residents of the fifth dormitory will be accommodated in a dormitory (Grybo St. 39), which VILNIUS TECH will soon acquire from Vilnius college of technologies and design under State trust rights. This dormitory has 155 residential rooms with 302 living spaces. Once renovated, it will be also used to accommodate international students.
VILNIUS TECH invests in dormitory repairs and improving living conditions every year. In 2023, the third dormitory (Saulėtekio Ave. 16) was renovated and adapted for people with disabilities. It now includes a lift for the disabled, as well as WC and shower facilities and wider room doors. Renovations are ongoing in the fourth dormitory (Saulėtekio Ave. 18). This year, it is also planned to renovate 452 square meters in the sixth dormitory.
VILNIUS TECH has also approached the municipality to install multimodal bike storage facilities near most dormitories.
13.5 Million Euros for Dormitory Renovation
13.5 million euros will be allocated to the renovation of the fifth dormitory (Saulėtekio Ave. 19-1) for the interior refurbishment and exterior modernisation of the building. 6.2 million euros will be directed toward improving the dormitory's energy efficiency, while 7.3 million euros will be used for interior renovations, furniture, and the acquisition of other equipment as well as inventory.
VILNIUS TECH dormitories offer over 2,400 places. This year, around 800 full-time students (about 500 from Lithuania and 300 from foreign countries) are expected to be accommodated in the dormitories. Room prices range from 80 to 250 EUR. Prices depend on the type of room, the number of occupants, available amenities, the extent of renovations done, and the length of stay.
