VILNIUS TECH community is invited to join the ATHENATHON challenge
The seven Universities of the ATHENA European University are proud to launch the second edition of the Europe Day ATHENATHON, a sporting event destined to reach a distance of 11 000 km.
From 9 May until 9 June 2022 and is open to members of the community of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH) and others who want to join the challenge.
Last year, the initial goal of 11 000 km, which represents the cumulative distance between our 7 European campuses, was tripled! This year, all participants are urged to unite and improve the record.
How to join ATHENATHON?
A month-long initiative starts on Europe Day. The initiative is part of a more global vision of a green and climate-friendly Europe. For this reason, participants are encouraged to choose from the following activities: running, walking, swimming, cycling, hiking, pedal boating, ice skating, jogging, cycling indoors, rowing, kayaking, rock climbing, etc.
To participate in the event, each participant must:
• Post your mileage by posting it on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram with official event tags # move4athena or #athenathon.
• add a screenshot of the operation of the tracking program;
• join the Strava club Europe Day ATHENATHON.
What is Europe Day?
May 9, Europe Day for Peace and Unity in Europe. This date marks the historic "Schuman Declaration" - a speech by Robert Schuman in 1950 in Paris that presented the idea of a new form of political cooperation in Europe, the anniversary. Mr Schuman's proposal is considered to be the beginning of the current European Union.
What is ATHENA European University?
The European Universities Initiative is a European Union project in the field of higher education and research that aims to make European universities more open, efficient and inclusive internationally.
The Alliance for Advanced Technology in Higher Education (ATHENA) is one of the 2020 Pilot projects of European universities selected by the European Commission, bringing together the Porto Polytechnic Institute (Portugal, coordinator), the University of Maribor (Slovenia), the University of Orleans (France), the University of Siegen (Germany), the Greek University of the Mediterranean (Greece) and Niccolò Cusano (Italy) and Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (Lithuania).
ATHENA focuses on the digital transformation of society, developing strongly internationalized training courses, offering international mobility to the largest number of students, including people with disabilities, encouraging the emergence of collaborative research and development projects and fostering a new European perspective beyond 120,000. students and 10 thousand. alliance workers, but also to local communities and partners.
Opportunity to join the Academic Cycling Challenge
Another Academic Bicycle Challenge is underway. It is an international project for the world's universities and colleges, the main goal of which is to contribute to the mitigation of climate change through sustainable mobility.
You can contribute to it by running, walking and otherwise moving. More information can be found here.
