Vilnius Residents Appreciate the Ideas of Landscape Architecture Students
Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH) Landscape Architecture students were awarded prizes in the competition for the landscaping ideas of Vilnius S. Nėries Street.
Vilnius City Municipality, together with Vilnius City Parks, ID Vilnius, Agency UP, organised an ideas competition for the landscape ideas of Vilnius S. Nėries Street. The competition required the presentation of an analysis of the area, a greenery plan and the types of planting, composition methods and other proposals for the street.
The Second and Third places were awarded to the students of the Landscape Architecture study programmes of the Faculty of Architecture of VILNIUS TECH: Baltrus Vileikis, Augustinas Rudys, Ieva Medelytė and Rasa Bernatonytė. Competition comission: Linas Vaitkevičius, environmental expert at ID Vilnius; Emilis Tamošiūnas, Chief Specialist at the Environmental Programmes and Plantation Management Subdivision of the Urban Environment Division of the Vilnius City Municipality Administration; Akvilė Myško-Žvinienė, Head of the Landscape Architecture Subdivision at the Urban Environment Division of the Vilnius City Municipality Administration.
The winners of the Second place, Baltrus Vileikis, Augustinas Rudys and Ieva Medelytė, proposed to create a green belt in S. Nėries Street, creating a green oasis next to the busy street and fostering a stronger connection between the school community and the inhabitants of the apartment blocks. The authors also proposed an art object - a sculpture that creates music."The environment created is sustainable, visually aesthetic, engaging and stimulates interaction between the community," the authors say.
The Third prize winner, Rasa Bernatotytė, presented "Poetry Street" with plantations forming rhythmic lines of poems and offering residents to listen to poetry while sitting on smart benches.Bernatonytė's aim was to "create a distinctive, attractive street environment that creates a higher quality of life".
The winners were awarded financial prizes by the international Green Me5 project.
