VGTU rating is rising in the Global ranking system Webometrics
Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) has significantly improved its position in the Webometrics, the global Ranking (Web) of World Universities.
According to the latest news, the university has moved towards the top by more than one hundred positions and has been recognized as a more open, visible and influential university.
According to the ranking system, which provides rating for almost twenty thousand universities worldwide, assessing their results, as of 2014, first half-year, our top five Lithuanian universities line up as follows: Vilnius University (VU) ranks first, reaching the 644 position (former position – 705), VGTU is among the leaders, retaining the second place, and from former 1091 position reaching the 979 position. Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) ranks third, from former 1830 position rising to the 1817 position, Mykolas Romeris University reaches the 1909 position, and Klaipeda University – the 2270 position. Webometrics rated 44 institutions of higher education of Lithuania.
’’VGTU is constantly and consistently aspiring to improve the results, to become a more open, visible and influential university. The external ratings of the first half-year prove, that the knowledge accumulated at the university, discoveries, innovations and achievements of the scientists, are available not only for the international academic society, but also for every member of the society worldwide’’, - says Professor, Doctor Alfonsas Daniūnas, Rector of VGTU.
Three universities of the United States of America are on the top of the university ranking list: Harvard University takes the first position, Massachusetts Technological University – the second position, and Stanford University – the third position. If compared with the data of Webometrics, published half a year ago, the former top universities retained their leading positions.
The Webometrics University Ranking System is based on the worldwide analyses of the activity, web presence and visibility of the universities, which is performed every half of a year. The rating takes into account the number of external in-links, receiving the university web, the number of scientists’ publications in the open access scientific data bases and influential scientific magazines as well as their quotation frequency. The rating is made by Cybermetrics Lab, established by Spanish National Research Council, providing rating data for almost twenty thousand universities worldwide.
