The Rector of VILNIUS TECH met with the European Commissioner
Rector of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH) Romualdas Kliukas participated in a meeting with Mariya Gabriel, the European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education, and Youth Affairs. Commissioner visited the Lyceum of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University with Jurgita Šiugždinienė, Minister of Education, Science and Sports of Lithuania.
Commissioner Mariya Gabriel welcomed VILNIUS TECH's membership in the ATHENA alliance of universities. She noted that the cooperation between the University and the VGTU lyceum in the education of young engineers and the involvement of pupils in STEAM activities is precisely what the European Commission is striving for in the education sector.
"What we have foreseen in our future strategy, you are already carrying out," said the European Commissioner and noticed the significant changes already taking place in the education sector in Lithuania and Europe.
Rector Romualdas Kliukas, speaking at the meeting, emphasized the quality of education at the Lyceum and remembered the beginning of the cooperation: "The beginning of cooperation with the school was the VGTU classes established in 2011 years. The school was granted the status of a gymnasium and the name of Vilnius Engineering Lyceum in 2015. The Lyceum was awarded the name of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University In 2016. Today, lecturers and professors of all faculties of VILNIUS TECH teach at the Lyceum, and the graduated students of the VGTU Lyceum complete 18 engineering modules provided by the University."
Jurgita Šiugždinienė, minister of the ŠMSM, wished the girls to choose engineering as a career path and invited all of the pupils to choose the profession of an engineering teacher.
The European Commissioner, M. Gabriel, is responsible for the European Union's policies on science, research, innovation, Horizon Europe and Erasmus+, education, culture, and sport. The Commissioner devotes a special mission to implementing EU policies to universities as key players in innovation.
