Sustainability Hub: European universities discussing sustainable energy
On November 5-6, the Sustainability Hub at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH) hosted a meeting as part of the international project "Advanced Tools for Changing Higher Education Stakeholders' Energy Consumption Behaviour" (ABCinEnergy).
The project is coordinated by the Department of Financial Engineering at VILNIUS TECH, with specialists from the Department of Financial Engineering, the Department of Management, and the Sustainability Hub joining the team.
The goal of the "ABCinEnergy" project is to assess university policies and practical actions in the field of energy resource conservation, as well as to encourage members of the higher education community to actively engage in responsible resource consumption and climate change mitigation activities. The meeting discussed key steps in the project: developing methodologies and tools for monitoring energy resource conservation behaviour, the project’s action plan, and its implementation measures.
According to the project’s institutional leader, Prof. Dr. Indre Lapinskaite, who presented the methodology and plan for implementing the first action package, coordinated by VILNIUS TECH: "Not only the decisions made by organizations but also each of our daily behaviours determine how we contribute to responsible resource consumption and climate change mitigation."
The Vice-Rector for Strategic Partnerships, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adas Meskenas, in his welcome speech to the consortium members, emphasized that interdisciplinary projects aimed at finding sustainable development solutions, creating tools, and applying them in daily activities are essential for achieving international sustainable development goals.
Project partners from CESIE ETS (Italy), WORLD UNIVERSITY SERVICE (Austria), UNIVERZITET U NOVOM SADU (Serbia), UNIVERSIDAD DE ALICANTE (Spain), UNIVERSITA DEGLI STUDI DI PALERMO (Italy), UNIVERSITE DE MONTPELLIER (France), and University for SDGs (Italy) presented their experiences in the field of energy resource management and learned more about VILNIUS TECH Sustainability Hub and its laboratories. The Director of the Sustainability Hub, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Raimondas Grubliauskas, presented the ongoing research and directions of the center’s activities.
The "ABCinEnergy" project meeting at VILNIUS TECH highlighted the importance of this project in pursuing sustainable energy solutions in the higher education sector. Such projects strengthen the university’s role in addressing global challenges, promote more responsible resource use, and contribute to consumption changes necessary for achieving long-term impacts on climate change mitigation.
The event was organized under the ERASMUS+ Capacity Building Program project 2024-1-IT02-KA220-HED-000248190.
