Scientists of VGTU and the Houston University will share experience with Lithuanian companies
Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) with a partner from the United States, the University of Houston, is planning feasibility studies on the development and investment of the largest companies in the Lithuanian transport and energy sectors. The issue has been discussed this week, during the visit of the US delegation – Master of Business Administration students group from the University of Houston Bauer College of Business.
Recently, the new level of cooperation between the two universities has been reached, in the near future starting their joint research, which will result in the strategy development for several Lithuanian companies. The opportunity to participate in this project is being under consideration by the VGTU long-term social partners – the Lithuanian Railways and the Lithuanian Post Office. The initiative is sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Lithuania.
"The Mission of the University is not only to educate students or be engaged in the scientific research, but also to contribute to the sustainable and economic development of Lithuania. Collaborating with our partners from the United States, we attempt to transfer our scientific knowledge and best experience to our companies and to assist them, while implementing the research into the practice," – said Asta Radzevičienė, Vice-Rector for International Relations at VGTU.
Parallel, the modules for the joint studies are being planned, with lectures, delivered by the professors of VGTU Business Management Faculty and the University of Houston Bauer College of Business, which is among the top 600 universities, according to the QS world university rankings. The plans for the joint PhD studies, student exchanges and research is being under preparation, as well. Currently, the universities are collaborating in business management, construction, and environmental engineering, but in the near future, the partnership will be also expanded to other scientific fields.
The Master of Business Administration students, visiting Lithuania, are the energy, financial and other sectors‘ medium or senior executives, having leadership experience of ten years, on average. A group of students is accompanied by three professors of the University of Houston and Jokūbas Žiburkus, the President of the Lithuanian community of Houston. During this visit they will meet the representatives of the Office of the President of the Republic of Lithuania, participate at the economic experts‘ lectures, visit the "Baltic Optical Disc" plant in Vilnius and the seaport in Klaipėda, as well as companies "Fortum Heat Lietuva", "VPA logistics" and "Orion Global PET" at Klaipeda Free Economic Zone.
Their stay in Lithuania is a part of the Master of Business Administration program of the University of Houston Bauer College of Business. The next visit is scheduled for the spring of the following year.
