Orientation Week for VGTU's International Students
The orientation week for international students who came to study at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) starts at the University. It is an important semester for VGTU’s staff as the number of new international students at VGTU is at a record high of almost 600.
During the opening session of the Orientation week, the new students were greeted by the Vice-Rector for Strategic Partnerships Asta Radzevičienė, the representatives of VGTU's International Relations Office and the International Studies Centre. It is a traditional event, which is held in the beginning of every semester. It aims to introduce the new students to the University’s rules and regulations, housing and provides all necessary information for their successful studies at the university. In addition, VGTU Students' Representation introduced themselves to new students, while the representatives of ESN VGTU – who are in charge of international students' social activities – presented the planned events and projects. Last but not least, the new students learned about the most important aspects of the law enforcement in Lithuania directly from a representative of the Lithuanian Police.
A 5-day orientation week is filled with numerous activities, trips and classes, which reveal rich Lithuanian history and culture. New international students are offered a trip to Trakai, Vilnius Old Town tour, Vilnius city orientation challenge and other leisure entertainment. The Orientation week shall end on the 2nd of September.
This year VGTU welcomes 288 full-time international students: 268 of them start their studies at VGTU this year, and others continue their studies at VGTU after the summer break. Bachelor students make 53%, 46% of students study on master’s level, and 1% are PhD students. In addition to that, VGTU welcomes 306 exchange students who are visiting the University under various international exchange programmes.
