Orientation Days for VGTU's New International Students
On 29 January, the Orientation Days for International Students, who came to study to Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) under various exchange programmes, have started. This semester VGTU hosts about 250 new exchange students who will join 90 exchange students staying for their second semester at the university. The new exchange students came from 33 countries.
During an opening event of the Orientation Days, the exchange students were greeted by Director of International Relations Office Aušra Pelėdienė. In addition, representatives of the Office told more about the university and numerous opportunities here. Representatives of VGTU’s International Studies Centre introduced the students with the main rules and procedures at the university, and administrator of students’ dormitory described the housing rules. The representatives of ESN VGTU – who are in charge of international students' social activities – presented the events and projects planned for this semester.
Representatives of the police told about the most important aspects of the law enforcement in Lithuania, and employees of the municipality enterprise “Susisiekimo paslaugos” presented the public transport system in Vilnius. The students also met representatives of Go Vilnius, who informed them about social activities in the city.
A 5-day orientation week will be filled with numerous activities. The students will visit VGTU Sports and Art Centre, the creativity and innovation centre “LinkMenų Fabrikas”, also they will participate in various trips and classes, which reveal rich Lithuanian history and culture. New international students will be offered a trip to Trakai, Vilnius Old Town tour and other leisure entertainment. The Orientation Days shall end on the 2nd of February.
This semester the highest number of exchange students came from France, Spain, Germany and Turkey. In addition, the university hosts exchange students who came under the international Erasmus+ mobility programme. They come from Chile, Salvador, Iran, Jordan, Malaysia, Peru, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, China, Vietnam.
