New mobile application: Mano VGTU goes mobile
Rapid development of mobile technologies inspired representatives of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) to create Mano VGTU mobile application. Mobile applications are increasingly used not only in business, but for studies as well. Checking timetables and receiving class reminders will be much easier and more convenient with the new Mano VGTU application. Mano VGTU mobile application will be available from 12 September, 2018.
The project idea was developed by the staff of VGTU’s Centre of Information Technology and Systems (VGTU ITSC). While analysing VGTU’s website statistics, the specialists of VGTU ITSC noticed that students use mano.vgtu.lt almost every day.
“The data show that last year almost 38% of users who visited mano.vgtu.lt used a smart phone; thus, we decided to develop a unique mobile application which has more advantages than a website”, says Justė Kareivaitė, Project Manager at VGTU ITSC.
User-friendly and functional – these were the main goals for the new mobile app. The developers focused only on the main functions of mano.vgtu.lt website, and they say it is the main advantage of the new mobile application.
“Currently, the application is available for Android users. The application for iOS is in our plans and should be available soon. The internet connection is not necessary for the application. The speed of operation depends solely on the capacity of a mobile device. The new application offers notification function. A student can receive a push notification about the upcoming class on their mobile device certain amount of time before the class,” described Justė Kareivaitė.
The functionality of the application will be expanded gradually. Later, students will have a possibility to carry out lecture room search according to one’s current location and the location of the room where the class will be.
