Life Cycle Thinking: VILNIUS TECH Sustainability HUB Launched Innovative Course
In April, VILNIUS TECH Sustainability HUB invited students and sustainability enthusiasts to an online course "Life Cycle Thinking", taught by VILNIUS TECH Sustainability Programs Coordinator Dr. Rūta Mikučionienė. Life Cycle thinking is the second course organized by VILNIUS TECH Sustainability HUB, and was an open invitation to VILNIUS TECH and other university students and anyone interested in sustainability as well.
The course started on April 8th, and over eight weeks, participants will deepen their knowledge and explore the lifecycle, encompassing the environmental, social, and economic impacts and understanding of a product or service throughout its entire life from conception to end-of-life or recycling.
People from all around the world have registered for the course. Participants also come from 6 universities of the ATHENA alliance: Polytechnic Institute of Porto (Portugal), Hellenic Mediterranean University (Greece), University of Maribor (Slovenia), Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (Ukraine), Lviv Polytechnic National University (Ukraine), Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (Lithuania). Students also joint from other universities: Riga Technical University (Latvia), and Kyiv National University of Food Technologies (Ukraine).
During the course, the theoretical part is accompanied by practical tasks where students are conducting real research on various sustainability topics. Some chosen topics include comparing paper and digital books; comparing the lifecycle of single-use paper and reusable cotton bags; comparing the lifecycle of reusable containers made from recycled plastic or suitable for recycling.
At the end of the course, the best works will be presented to the university community and on VILNIUS TECH Sustainability HUB's social networks.
VILNIUS TECH Sustainability HUB is a place that connects education, business, and science. Founded on April 3, 2023, the center will soon open its doors to students and guests by the end of May. And for those who want to delve deeper into sustainability knowledge, we will invite them to bachelor's and master's studies starting from September.
