Colleagues from Japan - at the Faculty of Fundamental Sciences
On Friday, Mr. Naoki Odaka and Mr. Hirotaka Suzuki, the professors of Kobe University from Japan, visited Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU).
The guests met Prof. Antanas Cenys, the Vice-Rector for Research, Dr. Asta Radzeviciene, the Vice-Rector for International Relations, Prof. Rimantas Belevičius, the Dean of the Faculty of Fundamental Sciences (FFS), Dr. Daiva Makuteniene, the Head of the Department of Engineering Graphics and Lina Sarkaite, the representative of the International Relations Office.
In the spring of this year, Rimantas Belevicius, the Dean of the Faculty of Fundamental Sciences, VGTU, and Ogawa Matsuto and Okada Akihiro, the Deans of the Graduate School of Engineering and Graduate School of Human Development and Environment of Japan‘s Kobe University, signed the Cooperation Agreement.
This time our guests Naoki Odaka and Hirotaka Suzuki, the Professors of the Graduate School of Engineering and Graduate School of Human Development and Environment of Japan‘s Kobe University, from Lithuania will bring the approved By-Laws on Students’ Exchange Terms and Conditions, signed by Rimantas Belevicius, the Dean of the Faculty of Fundamental Sciences, VGTU.
The opportunities for VGTU students to write diploma works in Japan were discussed during the meeting. It was agreed on the exchange of remote lectures: thus, in spring Kobe University professors will deliver lectures for VGTU students, while VGTU teachers – for Japanese students.
Our guests toured the distance learning classes and some laboratories. The professors held two open lectures "Trial Lecture of Engineering Graphics Education for Manufacturing with Folded Paper (Origami)" and "Situation of Engineering Graphics Education in Kobe University", speaking on the issues of graphics, descriptive geometry, surface modelling, light design topics and methodology of teaching graphics in Japan.
The Cooperation Agreement, signed in spring, provided the development of scientific research according to the interests of both parties, joint scientific seminars and participation in scientific conferences, sharing of experience between the staff members and academics, writing joint scientific articles for the research journals, published by the partner institutions. The researchers of the universities are planning the exchange of scientific publications, reference books, textbooks and monographs. In the long run, students and teaching staff exchange between the faculties should also start.
The first results of cooperation have already been seen on November 3, at Kobe University Brussels European Centre, where Daiva Makuteniene, the initiator of the Cooperation Agreement, delivered a report on the situation of engineering graphics studies at VGTU during the international seminar, organised and funded by Kobe University.
The reports of the representatives of Kobe University are expected during the BALTGRAF International Conference in June, organised by the Department of Engineering Graphics.
