A growing number of American students at „VGTU-CalPoly‘2016“ summer school
International engineering summer school “VGTU-CalPoly‘2016“ for students from Lithuania and USA started at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University this week. The summer school is organised together with California Polytechnic State University (CalPoly) for four years already and it attracts more and more American students every year, who are coming to Lithuania to deepen the knowledge of structural mechanics and geodetic measurements together with VGTU students for five intensive weeks. This year there are 32 students from CalPoly studying together with students from VGTU.
„The VGTU-CalPoly summer school initiated by CalPoly professor and a member of Lithuanian American community Edmundas Saliklis proved to be very successful – increasing number of students from California are coming every year. This summer school is a great opportunity not only to gain specific knowledge and practical experience of ones future profession, have a more flexible academic year schedule, but also to gain valuable social skills in international environment. The latter skills are extremely important for everyone planning an international career“, – said Aušra Pelėdienė, Director of VGTU International Relations Office.
CalPoly professor Graham Archer together with VGTU Civil Engineering Faculty professor Gediminas Blaževičius are delivering structural mechanics and mathematical modelling seminars with MATLAB this year. VGTU Environmental Engineering Faculty professors Darius Popovas and Ignas Daugėla are delivering theoretical and practical seminars of geodetic measurements.
As last year, „VGTU-CalPoly‘2016“ students not only will have an opportunity to improve professional knowledge, but also to participate in cultural programme and learn Lithuanian history. Leisure activities organised for the summer school students include thematic trips around Vilnius and weekend trips to other Lithuanian towns.
